Upcoming Class Details

Join Keep Growing Detroit for a lively, hands-on workshop all about tomatoes - from seed to table and back again! Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned gardener, this session will guide you through every stage of the tomato journey: selecting the right varieties, planting and caring for healthy plants, troubleshooting common issues, harvesting at peak ripeness, and transforming your bounty in the kitchen.

Led by Engagement Manager and seasoned grower Danielle Daguio, a beekeeper and gardener with over a decade of experience, this “tomato takeover” will also explore simple, practical ways to preserve tomatoes, like freezing, canning, and drying - so you can enjoy their flavor year-round. You’ll even learn how to save seeds from your harvest, empowering you to grow again next season and deepen your connection to the growing cycle.

Participants will receive heirloom tomato seedlings to take home, along with tips for nurturing them in your own garden space—whether that’s a backyard, raised bed, or container on a porch.

Come ready to learn, share, and get inspired to grow your own delicious, sustainable harvest!

This workshop supports several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including:

  • SDG 2 (Zero Hunger): by teaching participants how to grow their own food
  • SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption & Production): by teaching Food preservation methods (canning, freezing, drying)
  • SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities & Communities):  by building community knowledge and resilience

Space is limited, so register today!

This workshop is FREE for all Detroit, Highland Park and Hamtramck Residents.

Participants younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
