The Art Enrichment Program is free to all participants and is designed to engage children and adults in fresh approaches to creating art while keeping sustainability at the forefront of the curriculum.

 

Youth Art Enrichment

AGES 7-12

These FREE art classes are designed for children ages 7 to 12 who attend Detroit, Highland Park, or Hamtramck Public or Charter Schools, or who are homeschooled in these cities. The classes focus on fostering creativity and developing new artistic skills while emphasizing the importance of sustainability in every lesson. The goal of the Hope for Flowers Youth Art Enrichment program is to nurture the creative talents of young people in our community while raising their awareness of sustainable living practices. .

Adult Art Enrichment: Watercolor Exploration

Registration is full!

Join us for a relaxing and inspiring 4-week watercolor class as part of the Hope for Flowers Community Art Enrichment Program! This free class is open to participants 18 years and older and welcomes all skill levels—whether you're a beginner or an experienced artist looking to refine your technique.

Led by Lorna Braxton, a talented teaching artist and former Detroit Public Schools teacher, this course will guide you through the fundamentals of watercolor painting. Each 2-hour session will introduce new techniques, allowing you to explore color mixing, brushwork, layering, and composition in a supportive and creative environment.

All materials will be provided, and no prior experience is necessary. Come ready to learn, experiment, and have fun in a welcoming and encouraging space!

AGES 18+
Classes will be held on four successive Thursdays:
April 10, 17, 24 & May 1, 2025

Teen Art Enrichment: Upcycling for Teens

AGES 13-19

In our first Teen workshop, and in celebration of Earth Week, teens will explore the impact of fast fashion and discover creative ways to make a difference through upcycling!

What to Expect:
🗣 Discussion on Fast Fashion – Learn how the fashion industry affects the environment and why upcycling is a sustainable alternative.
👕 T-Shirt Tote Bag Project – Transform an old t-shirt into a stylish, no-sew reusable bag.
✂️ "Cut" T-Shirt Project – Give a second life to a t-shirt by redesigning it with cutting techniques, fringes, or braiding for a fresh, upcycled look.

No sewing experience is needed—just bring two old t-shirts to upcycle (or use provided materials). All other supplies will be provided!

Sustainability Workshop: Let's Talk About Sustainable Fashion

AGES 13+

Join Hope for Flowers by Tracy Reese for an engaging and informative 2-hour Sustainable Fashion Conversation in honor of Fashion Revolution Week 2025.

This special event will explore the intersection of fashion and sustainability, fostering a thoughtful discussion on how we can all contribute to a more ethical and environmentally responsible fashion industry.

Through an interactive conversation, attendees will learn about:
• The impact of the fashion industry on the environment and communities
• Practical steps for adopting more sustainable wardrobe practices
• The role of circular fashion, upcycling, and mindful consumption
• How brands and consumers can work together to drive meaningful change

Whether you’re a fashion enthusiast, designer, student, or simply curious about how to make more conscious choices, this workshop will offer valuable insights and actionable takeaways.
