Adult Art Enrichment: Creative Welt Felting

AGES 18+

Judy Sledge is a highly accomplished fiber artist who specializes in wet felting, an intricate technique that transforms loose wool fibers into wearable art. As the owner of Artrages Art Gallery, located within the International Institute in Midtown Detroit, Judy designs and creates vibrant, one-of-a-kind pieces that showcase the depth and beauty of fiber art. Her wearable masterpieces are renowned for their detail, texture, and artistic flair. We are thrilled to welcome her back to Hope for Flowers this year to lead our Creative Wet Felting class, where participants will have the unique opportunity to learn from her expertise and artistic vision.

In this four-week workshop, students will dive into the art of felting, creating a unique hat or cowl from start to finish. Each class introduces new techniques and hands-on practice, starting with an overview of felting basics, tools, and resist techniques. By Week Two, students will begin the layout of their project. The third class focuses on the wet felting process, where fibers come to life with color and shape. In the final week, students will personalize their creations with a variety of methods and embellishments. Each student receives a complete kit, and all materials are provided, though everyone is welcome to bring personal items for extra customization.

All skill levels welcome—come prepared to learn, experiment, and have fun! 6:00-8:00 PM

"Through our Art Enrichment Program, we hope to expand the possibilities that children see for themselves. We want to help them ‘color their worlds.’ I believe that experiencing the arts enhances our view of the world and our place in it, and gives us agency to create rich and vibrant lives."
